The vocals consist of extremely deep growling, which is quite interesting, since this specific kind of music usually goes for higher-pitched howls. The guitars are abundantly clear and crisp, without sacrificing their inherent heaviness. The vocals and the snare drum resonate and echo throughout the rest of the music, as if they were recording inside a gory basement. The production is rather cavernous in nature. It is an interesting combination: the sludgy intro is reminiscent of Incantation there are slow, throbbing power chords played in the vein of Devourment and last but not least, fast and brisk passages similar to those heard in Cannibal Corpse's latest offerings. This nasty little EP can be described as a melting pot of multiple death metal styles. No, the only hole in my face was a result of these 200 stab wounds leaving me a bloody satisfied mess and delightfully looking forward to the next release by this group If i'm going to listen to yet another song about a body in a basement, I better not be yawning. The songs here are short, yet very fleshed out and not starved for ideas, which makes this release anything but boring, which in my opinion is the greatest sin in music. The drum kit sounds like a pile of junk played by a meth head, which is the highest compliment I can give to a death metal drummer, and it puts a smile on my face to hear that super tinny snare sound in a death metal context again. I can't compliment the production value on this album enough, it sounds like it was played in a musty, bloody basement that let's in just the right amount of light and makes intelligient use of the natural reverb and space. Don't believe me? Press play on the first minute of "Body in the Basement" and have your face melted by a healthy mix of slams and tremolos that could satisfy even the most jaded connisseurs of death.

This decievingly small package comes loaded with plenty of meaty fucking riffs to stuff you're face with.

This release stands head and shoulders above sea level of the endless waves of "old school" orientated death metal that seems to be all the rage for the past few years. Somewhere in the ballpark of 200 times in fact. I'll be honest, i'm rarely impressed with anything that comes from Maggot Stomp, so naturally, I put off this release for quite a while and only gave it a chance after a friend's recommendation that went something like "it'll stab you in the fucking face bro".
